This service is designed to provide you with informational support from qualified, registered pharmacists affiliated with Medizone’s network of licensed pharmacies. Our goal is to enhance your access to professional pharmaceutical knowledge in a safe, secure, and compliant manner. Please read this policy carefully to understand the scope and limitations of this service. This service is not a substitute for a direct consultation with your prescribing doctor or other healthcare provider, nor is it a dispensing or delivery service for prescription medicines.
Section 1: What This Service Is
The Prescription Support Service is a complimentary, informational platform that allows you to connect with a registered pharmacist by uploading a valid medical prescription. The service is intended for the following purposes only:
- To inquire about the availability of a prescribed medication at our physical Medizone pharmacy branches.
- To seek clarification on dosage instructions, administration methods, or storage requirements as stated on your prescription.
- To inquire about potential generic alternatives for a prescribed medication that may be available for purchase in-person at our physical pharmacy locations.
- To ask general questions related to the medication on your prescription.
Section 2: What This Service Is NOT
To ensure your safety and our strict adherence to the regulations set forth by the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) and the Ministry of Health, it is critical to understand the limitations of this service. The Prescription Support Service does NOT:
- Dispense or Deliver Prescription Medication: We do not, under any circumstances, sell, dispense, or deliver any prescription-only medicines through the Medizone.lk website. All transactions on this website are for Over-The-Counter (OTC) products only.
- Diagnose Medical Conditions: Our pharmacists cannot and will not provide medical diagnoses. The service is not a substitute for a consultation with a qualified medical doctor.
- Issue or Alter Prescriptions: This service does not create, issue, or amend medical prescriptions. The validity and content of the prescription remain the sole responsibility of your prescribing physician. The Electronic Transactions Act allows for the use of electronic documents, but we use this capability for informational exchange only.[1, 2]
- Replace Your Doctor’s Advice: The information provided by our pharmacists is for support and clarification purposes only and must not be considered a replacement for the medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment provided by your doctor.
Section 3: How It Works
- Upload: Use our secure portal to upload a clear, legible image of your complete and valid prescription, issued by a medical practitioner registered in Sri Lanka.
- Consent & Contact: You will be required to provide your name and contact information and give your explicit consent for a Medizone pharmacist to view your prescription for the sole purpose of responding to your inquiry. This is a requirement under the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) No. 9 of 2022.
- Pharmacist Review: A registered pharmacist from a Medizone pharmacy will review your uploaded prescription and your inquiry.
- Response: The pharmacist will contact you via the details you provided to discuss your query.
- Data Deletion: To protect your privacy in accordance with the PDPA’s storage limitation principle, the digital copy of your uploaded prescription and any related health data will be securely and permanently deleted from our active systems within 72 hours of your inquiry being marked as resolved.
Section 4: Your Privacy
The privacy and security of your health information are our highest priority. The prescription you upload is considered “Special Category Personal Data” under the PDPA and is handled with the utmost care.
